New Associate Pastor
We praise God and His answered prayers! We officially welcome our new Associate Pastor, Don Bryan, and his wife, Kim, to NCSDA for his first sermon here on Sept. 1. They come to us from the islands, and have two grown children.

Seeing Jesus Through Muslim Eyes
Sabbath, August 18

This seminar will equip attendees to reach out to Muslims. Presenter Elder Gerald Babanezhad, Coordinator of Muslim Outreach at the Pacific Union Conference and Board Member of NAD Adventist Muslim Relation, will share the historical setting and perspective of Islam, the role of the Adventist church in sharing the three angel's message with Muslims, Muslim's understanding of Seventh-Day Adventists, testimonies and much more. He will offer a Q&A time.
   
Invite your friends for a morning of inspiration (both services contain the same content), followed by a potluck, mini-concert at 2 p.m. and a seminar at 2:30 p.m.

Please plan to stay for the potluck and bring a dish or two extra to help serve our guests!


Adventurer/Eager Beaver Help Needed

This fun scouting clubs for kids aged 4-9 needs volunteers! We are especially looking for teachers. Please note that Eager Beaver parents need to stay with their kids during the meetings.Contact Pastor Marcia, director, or Linda Fonseca, assistant director, to help.

 
Cascade Eagles Pathfinder Registration
First Staff Meeting: Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6:30 p.m., Skagit Adventist Academy

Come join Pathfinders for an exciting year, as we prepare for the International Pathfinder Camporee in Oshkosh, WI next August. The theme for the 2019 Camporee is "Chosen", and is about King David. We have a fun and exciting year planned, so don't miss out. If you are in 5th to 12th grades, you are eligible to join Pathfinders. The Cascade Eagles meet every Tuesday evening during the school year, with some weekend activities, fundraisers and camping trips. Random Acts of Kindness Projects
Project Homeless Connect booth
Friday, August 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Skagit Valley College
North Cascade SDA will serve our local homeless by donating hats and socks for all ages, and feminine hygiene products. SOCKS ESPECIALLY ARE NEEDED!  Sign up to provide snacks, too. More volunteers needed
In addition to working at our church booth, there are other volunteer opportunities. Some of the positions include set up, tear down, food prep, guest greeters, guiding people around campus, and intake. We have a HUGE need for interpreters that speak Spanish, Mixteco, Triqui, Russian, and Ukrainian. They are also in need of some extra volunteer dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants to help out with our dental clinic. 

Dinner with the Doctor

Dinner with the Doctor, our free and fun health program, will present the film “Eating You Alive” this month. They are also planning a salad potluck, so bring your favorite plant-based salad and come and join us for a great evening!

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, safe, 12 step recovery program to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling your life. Open meeting—anyone may attend! 

Save the Date: Family Promise of Skagit Valley - Homeless for a Night
Sabbath, Sept. 29, 7 p.m. to Sunday, Sept. 30 at 7 a.m., NCSDA parking lot
NCSDA hosts Family Promise and the 13 partner churches and participants as they sleep in their cars, enjoy a concert and supper, and raise funds to support Family Promise. We need sleepers and sponsors. NCSDA’s church fundraising goal is $5,000! To contribute, put a check marked “Homeless for a Night” in a tithe envelope or mail it directly to the church at 800 Peacock Lane, Burlington, WA 98233. Contact Linda Foster for information. The thrift store is hiring for two positions:
     1) a paid part-time position (to work Tues, Wed, Thu)
     2) a volunteer cashier for Thursdays

Holiday Food Basket Ministry
August Foods of the Month

Now is an excellent time to take advantage of the many great summer grocery specials to stock up for the rapidly approaching food basket ministry. Our inventory is low and any donated food items are always welcome.

Featured items for August are spaghetti and tomato sauce, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables.

Pastor Ofa will be on vacation from Aug. 12 to Aug. 28. If you have an emergency situation, you may call one of the other pastors, a church elder, or the church office.

NW Pastor Attends Global Youth Leaders Congress

Steven Fonseca, youth pastor for the North Cascade Church in Burlington, Wash., (pictured here with his wife) attended the Seventh-day Adventist Global Youth Leaders Congress, held in Kassel, Germany, from July 31–Aug. 4. He joined approximately 1,600 other global Adventist youth leaders, including Ben Lundquist, Oregon Conference director for young adults, at the event which featured speakers such as Ty Gibson, Ted N.C. AMEN Port Orchard

AMEN is in need of more volunteers to accommodate the hundreds of people interested in the free AMEN Clinic happening soon. AMEN Port Orchard has hundreds of people in their area interested in free medical service, and to be able to provide this free service, at least 125 more volunteers are needed to fill the following positions: physician, optometrist, food service, and hospitality!
